Asleep at Our Seaports?  |
Washington DC is abuzz with the Administration’s approval of a contract for turning management of major American port-handling facilities over to an Arab corporation that is wholly owned by the government of Dubai, a part of the United Arab Emirates. If this deal goes forward, it places American ports in the hands of a foreign government! We worry about unwarranted control by the United Nations, and then plan to turn over management of our major seaports to a single foreign nation! Is someone asleep at our seaports? Doesn't government’s middle-management remember that a major American port--New York City--was attacked by 19 Arab terrorists just four years ago, or that two of the hijackers came from the United Arab Emirates? Further, this supposed Arab ally is suspected of laundering money for and giving money to the Taliban and Al Qaeda. The deal may make sense politically and commercially, but we believe it lacks common sense! God help us! |
