Marriage Protection Amendment

Last year, President Bush endorsed and successfully spearheaded pro-marriage votes in both Houses of Congress, and made marriage the determining issue of the 2004 elections. These and other democratically decided “values-issues” gave us the president and congress we have today. They are the “values” of the majority of American voters.

Most Americans have accepted that gays and lesbians have a right to live as they choose in our free society. But they don't believe they have a right to redefine marriage for our country. Americans want our laws to send a positive message to children about marriage, family and their future.

The constitutional problem, created by almost a decade of activist lawsuits to destroy our marriage laws, demands a constitutional fix. The Marriage Amendment protects the common sense view of marriage shared by the vast majority of Americans--of every race, creed and color.
