The U.S. Administration is again challenging Israel’s plan to construct apartments in greater Jerusalem, to alleviate housing needs and rising prices in the area. Israel feels that this is an unwanted and unwarranted interference in its internal affairs.
The challenge comes because much of the proposed construction is in the so-called “disputed” parts of Jerusalem, which were wrested from Israel by Jordan during the 1948 War. It was occupied territory by the Jordanian Hashemite Kingdom until 1967, when Israel won it back, restoring Jerusalem to its former unified status as the un-divided capital of Israel.
The city's mayor, said "Israeli law does not discriminate between Arabs and Jews or between east and west of the city," and that the municipality will continue to enable construction in every part of the city, for Jews and Arabs alike.
Let us continue to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem.” (Psalm 122:6-9)
