Jesus shocked and surprised many of his listeners when he proclaimed our obligation to “render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s.” Nearly 2,000 years later, we can spend a great deal of time discussing what that means, but one thing is certain: in a constitutional republic like ours, at a very minimum, “rendering unto Caesar” means casting an informed ballot on Election Day.

Yet, sadly, voter participation in elections has been declining precipitously, in recent years. The backbone of our system of government is our electoral process. The vitality of that process is, in large measure, determined by the strength of voter participation.

By many accounts, as many as four million Christians stay home on Election Day. Millions more avoid participating in the important Primary Elections and processes. Let us do our part not to let that happen.
