Treating Terrorists Seriously

Palestinian Authority chief, Mahmoud Abbas recently met with President George Bush in Washington D.C. where the President praised Abbas as a man committed to peace and curbing violence.

This praise belies the fact the PLO chief has publicly and repeatedly refused to honor his commitment to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure and forcefully prevent Palestinians from killing and maiming innocent Israeli men, women and children.

As recently as March, Abbas publicly referred to members of Hamas and Islamic Jihad as his “brethren.” In his thinking, there are no terrorists among the Palestinians, but merely “resistance forces.” According to Abbas, the killers of innocent Jewish citizens are “neither criminals nor murderers. Rather they are fighting for the honorable lives of their Palestinian brothers.”

It seems that it requires an extraordinary amount of “blind faith” for President Bush to see in all of that a platform for peaceful coexistence.

God’s word through Ezekiel is insightful: “Thus saith the Lord God: Behold, O [Edom], I am against thee…Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and has shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity…” (Ezekiel 35:3, 5)

"…Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.
Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.” Psalm 96:2,3 NIV

“May mercy and peace and love be multiplied to you.” Jude 2 NASB
